A federal jury in Oregon this afternoon
ruled that more than 80 former Wal-Mart workers should be
compensated for working overtime. In the ruling at Portland,
Oregon, the jurors rejected the claims of 24 other workers.
The amount to be paid is still to be determined.
The decision today came 14 months after an initial finding that
the nation`s largest retailer made employees at 18 Oregon stores
work overtime without pay. Similar lawsuits are pending against the
company in other states.
The judge asked lawyers for the workers to determine an
approximate dollar value for the overtime. He said there wouldn`t
be a final judgment for some time.
Lawyers for Bentonville-based Wal-Mart questioned the
credibility of the former employees and whether they exaggerated
the number of hours they worked.
