Senator Blanche Lincoln will be challenged in a Democratic primary this May. Lisa Burks of Hot Springs announced her candidacy yesterday. She is the former president of the National Organization for Women`s Hot Springs chapter and an ex-vice president of NOW`s Arkansas chapter. She wants to challenge Lincoln for her support of Republican President George Bush`s initiatives -- such as the resolution for war in Iraq, the PATRIOT Act and the recent Medicare prescription drug bill. Lincoln also received a new Republican challenger today. A spokesman for former Benton County Sheriff Andy Lee said Lee will announce his official candidacy Saturday in Rogers. Lee joins State Representative Jim Hunt and former Maumelle City Councilman Tom Formicola in the Republican primary race. Lincoln said through a spokesman that she welcomes challenges in the primary and the November general election.
