Merger Update

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The tiny Crawfordsville School District is being courted by two other districts interested in absorbing its staff and 230 students through consolidation. School board members met with the Marion School Board last night and will meet with Earle officials next week. Because it has fewer than 350 students, Crawfordsville must consolidate under a new state law mandating mergers of 57 of the state`s smallest districts. By voluntarily consolidating before an April first deadline, the new district could benefit from an incentive fund set up by the Legislature. Lawrence Lanos, Crafordsville`s board president, says his biggest concern is making sure any merger is as comfortable as possible for students. He says the Crawfordsville district is keeping an open mind about which neighbor to merge with. Posted by Mike Hellgren
