Preparing For Consolidation

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Parents of students at Paron`s school say they are resigned to seeing their 262-student district consolidated next year. But they have many unanswered questions about how the merger will work. The kindergarten through 12th-grade school is the hub of the tiny town. The town consists of the school, a convenience store, post office and volunteer fire department. Ray Davis is a 1983 Paron graduate with three children in the district. He says depending on whether Paron High continues to exist or is merged with a neighboring school, he will send his children to the Pulaski County School District to avoid the half-hour or longer bus ride to Benton, Perryville or Fountain Lake. Paron Superintendent George Lawson says he has talked with surrounding districts about merging, but consolidation will be difficult because Paron isn`t close to another school. The district has yet to finalize an agreement with another school district and Lawson wouldn`t speculate about Paron`s options. Posted by Mike Hellgren
