Updated: January 7, 2009
Electronics retailer Circuit City said today it plans to close a store in Fort Smith and 18 others nationwide. The company has been struggling with falling sales during a store remodeling project. It closed the 19 targeted stores today, will re-open them tomorrow and close them permanently February 23rd. Circuit City made 151 million dollars off the 19 stores last year and expects to lose 35 (m) million dollars in earnings for this quarter as a result of the closings. Circuit City has 623 stores across the country and still plans to open 65 to 70 new ones this year.
