Child Safety Experts Reveal Kidnapping Lures

Updated: January 7, 2009
Asking for help or directions are the most common lures kidnappers use to lure children away from their families, a Little Rock expert says. Officer Terrell Vaughn, who teaches child safety seminars in the Capital City, says parents need to be aware of the many tricks used by abductors. "Parents are the only ones who control the opportunity kidnappers have to take children," Vaughn says. Child safety seminar requests increased after a young girl was kidnapped in Sarasota, Florida on Sunday. Vaughn says police say online predators make up a large number of potential kidnappers and recommends parents monitor their child`s internet usage. He also says children should be aware of their surroundings, phone parents when they`re on their way home, and yelling "fire" instead of "help" if there is an attempted abduction.
