Officials of the Pulaski County School District say they`re considering a contract with a private company to provide students with rides to school. The district is coping with a school-bus drivers` strike that enters its second week today. After a weekend of meetings, the striking bus drivers said they planned to remain on picket lines today. They also asked for help in their confrontation with the district. Officials of the union, called the Pulaski Association of Support Staff, issued a statement. It asked for help from all those who support the rights of hard-working poor Arkansans. District Superintendent Don Henderson said officials of the district issued a request last week for contract proposals from private companies. He said entering into such a contract would be a last resort if the strike continues.
