State prison officials are trying to figure
out why a 24-year-old inmate died after complaining of stomach pain
and nausea. A spokeswoman says the death of Jonathan P- McGarrah
appears to be solely health-related. McGarrah was five-foot-six and
weighed about 240 pounds.
He was serving a ten-year prison sentence for arson out of
Madison County at the North Central Unit at Calico Rock. Monday, he
complained of nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain and infirmary
doctors sent him to a Little Rock hospital for treatment. His
condition worsened and he died last night, possibly because of
pulmonary problems or a blood clot.
