A wepon has been found belived to be used in the Friday shooting of a Perry County Deputy. Law enforcement officials have called off their search in Perry County for a man on foot in a remote area of the Ouachita National Forest. The manhunt began Friday afternoon after a Perry County sheriff`s deputy was wounded in a shooting. Authorities said Deputy Loyd King was apparently not severely injured, because he was wearing a bulletproof vest. They said King was patrolling in the south-central part of the county, a few miles off Arkansas Highway Ten, north of Lake Winona. He was looking for methamphetamine labs that had begun cropping up recently in the area. Officials said that, when he approached a man he encountered walking along a road, the man fled, and King chased him on foot. About two minutes later, King told dispatchers by radio that he had been shot. He was airlifted to a hospital, and officers from three counties and state police began to search for his assailant. Sheriff Ray Byrd said the manhunt was carried out in an area where there are thousands and thousands of acres with no roads. The man being sought was described as white, with black hair, a beard and a mustache, wearing a military jacket and jeans.
