Perry County School Fire Update

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Perry County Sheriff Ray Byrd says the fire that destroyed two buildings on the Perry-Casa School District Campus on Sunday is suspicious. Byrd says there`s no clear, innocent explanation for the point of origin of the fire. Byrd says investigators have interviewed over a dozen witness and are studying a videotape made by a school employee while the fire was burning. The buildings went up in flames a day before the Arkansas Department of Education approved the merger of the Perry-Casa and Ola School Districts. The change has upset some patrons. The county clerk last week said 53 percent of Perry-Casa school patrons had signed a petition seeking to stop the merger.
