Help for Some Arkansans with Big Summer Electric Bills

Central Arkansas Development Council (CADC) will begin accepting applications for Summer Low-Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) on July 11 in Pulaski County. Assistance will only be made for the cost of charges for electricity.
Regular and crisis assistance will be accepted during a Mass Intake Day scheduled Monday, July 11th and Tuesday July 12th from 9 a.m. until 2 pm. at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds Arts and Crafts Building, 2600 Howard Street in Little Rock.
To qualify for Crisis LIHEAP, applicants must have a disconnect notice with a disconnect date within 7 days of application date. All households receiving food stamps are potentially eligible to receive this assistance; however, the program is not limited to food stamp recipients. The program assists households with electricity only. Eligible households must meet income guidelines and furnish proof of all household income for the month prior to applying. Applications for regular assistance are also accepted.
Applicants for assistance must meet income guidelines. For a household of 1, monthly countable income is $1,471. For each additional person in the household, add $453. Countable income includes check stubs, child support, unemployment, housing utility assistance, SSI, SSA, TEA, VAS and retirement benefits.
To apply for assistance, the household should bring a copy of the current utility bill, social security numbers, and proof-of- income and date of birth for all household members. Clients must have a working knowledge of household resources. Additional information may be required during the interview process. Failure to provide verification requested may result in delay or denial of assistance. Allow agency 35 days to make payment.
