A psychologist on the faculty of the
University of Arkansas at Little Rock plans to head to Austria this
spring to teach a course on meditation.
Assistant Professor Daniel Holland will travel on a Fulbright
Senior Specialist Award to teach a course he developed at U-A-L-R.
Holland will consult with faculty at the Fachhochschulen, a new
university in Bad Gleichebern, Austria, for two weeks during the
spring and summer about teaching a course in mindfulness
meditation.
Holland originally developed the course through a Contemplative
Practice Fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies
in 2001. The course helps students learn methods of contemplation
to enhance their ability to think.
The course he taught at U-A-L-R was offered in conjunction with
the Office of Disability Support Services and was designed to
attract students with disabilities or chronic illness.
Holland is one of about 800 U.S. faculty and professionals who
will travel abroad to some 140 countries for this academic year
through the Fulbright Scholars Program.
