Entergy Bills About To Go Up Just A Little

Entergy Arkansas residential customers will soon
be charged up to a dollar a month to help pay for home
weatherization projects for poor families.
The new fee will generate an estimated seven million dollars
a year, with about 70 percent going to the project.
Thirty percent will fund grants or loans for alternative fuels
research and projects.
The Legislature last year passed a bill establishing the
Arkansas Weatherization Assistance Fund and the state Alternative
Fuels Fund.
According to the bill, an electric or natural gas utility may
choose to contribute to the funds and be assessed a fee of
one-tenth of a cent per kilowatt hour sold to each residential
customer -- but not to exceed one dollar per customer per month.
So far, Entergy is the only utility that has begun assessing a
fee to fund the programs.
