Update: Detco Plant Explosion And Fire

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Air quality tests show many of the chemicals in the air earlier have dissipated making it safer for people to come back to south Conway. Still, some areas immediately around the plant are blocked off, including the Oakwood Village and Shady Acres mobile home parks. Schools in Conway will be open with the exception of an adult daycare near the plant. That daycare also holds preschool classes. People working at the Kimberly Clark and I.C. businesses should report back to work tomorrow. Conway Regional Medical Center has treated 24 people for respiratory problems related to the explosion. Water quality tests show lots of chemical runoff, and a high acidity in water in ditches in the area. Posted by Mike Hellgren
