Program Gets Gun Convictions In Jefferson County

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
An effort among state and federal authorities to reduce gun crime in Pine Bluff has led to federal indictments of 45 people. The program has brought 25 convictions so far, but the Jefferson County prosecutor says it`s too early to declare victory. The program allows state cases that involve guns to be prosecuted in federal court, resulting in longer prison sentences and no parole. Prosecutor Steve Dalrymple says he`s satisfied with what he`s seen so far, but he says the long-term impact remains to be seen. The program also has a component to help guide school children away from firearms. Posted by Mike Hellgren
