Proposed Merger Has Some Residents Upset

Updated: January 7, 2009
Two small central Arkansas school districts have asked the state Board of Education to allow them to merge. The move would combine the Perry-Casa and Ola districts, starting in July. However, three residents of the Perry-Casa area say the merger was arranged without telling the community about it. The merger and the citizens` concerns are on the Education Board agenda when the panel meets in one week. Perry-Casa serves 107 students and Ola has about 520, both are located between Russellville and Little Rock. Under the agreement, officials said the Perry-Casa Elementary School would operate at a newly enlarged Ola district, but the Perry-Casa High School students would move into Ola High School.
