Extra Deer Meat Can Help Feed the Hungry

Updated: January 7, 2009
If you`re a hunter, you probably already have a deer or two in your freezer. But once you have more deer than you and your family can eat, that meat sometimes goes to waste. An organization called Arkansas Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry is asking hunters to donate that excess meat to help feed the hungry. "It`s a win situation for the hunter because once they`ve got 1 or 2 deer in the freezer, they`re usually through and they want to go hunting, but they have nothing to do with the meat. Well now they do," said Bob Barringer, Arkansas Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry. Barringer says once the meat has been processed it`s distributed by agencies like the Food Bank Network, or the Rice Depot. If you`d like to donate, you can call the organization at 501-227-0805 or log onto their website, www.afhfh.org.
