The Clinton Presidential Foundation is
asking a judge to rule immediately in its favor in a lawsuit
against the Arkansas Department of Economic Development.
In 2002, the state denied an income tax credit to the nonprofit
foundation -- which is building the 160 million dollar Clinton
Presidential Center, with its library and museum set to open next
November.
The foundation sought three-point-five million in
reimbursements for building materials under the Advantage Arkansas
Program. The state economic development director at the time, Jim
Pickens, said the library didn`t qualify because it`s not a
business.
The foundation argues that the law does not address nonprofit
organizations.
Pickens has since asked legislators to consider revamping the
law that created the Advantage Arkansas Program to ensure
nonprofits are included under certain circumstances.
