Pine Bluff Police Chief Offers To Give Up Officer Positions

Updated: January 7, 2009
Pine Bluff Police Chief Daniel Moses says he is willing to give up seven unfilled officer`s positions to lend a hand to the city`s Parks and Recreation Department. Mayor Dutch King`s budget proposal would cut funding to the Parks Department by about 375-thousand dollars. Parks Director Rickey Parks says that could force the closure of two community centers. Moses says he will meet with King to discuss options to keep the centers open. He describes the situation as a pay now or pay later dilemma, saying that closing the community centers would harm public safety and also inhibit youth projects that he hopes to implement. Moses already had volunteered to give up one additional position in order to fund a bailiff and a part-time clerk in District Court.
