New Roof For Readers

Updated: January 7, 2009
The tycoon Andrew Carnegie paid for the construction of the Conway County library in Morrilton in 1916. The structure`s roof has held up with only minimal repairs in the nearly 90 years since it was built. Now, the original decking underneath the tile roof is being replaced. Library Director Zoe Butler says only a few of the tiles themselves had to be changed out. The company that produced the original tiles is still doing business and was able to create new ones from the same set of molds. Posted by Mike Hellgren
