The mayor of North Little Rock Mayor says the U-S State Department has given its approval for the city to accept title to the submarine Razorback from Turkey. Hays said unless something unexpected happens, it is likely the Razorback submarine will be in Arkansas by the spring. The Razorback is an integral part of a ten-point-five million dollar Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum on the Arkansas River that Hays has proposed. In October, the State Department approved acceptance of the submarine October if the title transfer came only after the submarine reached the United States. Turkey declined that condition, not wanting responsibility for the boat once it left the country. Todd Hughes of the State Department`s office of Regional Security and Arms Transfers wrote in an e-mail to Hays that approval had been granted for a one-time exception.
