Weyerhaeuser Will Sell DeQueen Plant

Weyerhaeuser Company says it will sell a
treated utility pole plant in De Queen because the mill is not part
of the company`s core function. But Weyerhaeuser says the plant is
well run, has good workers and has a solid market. The company says
it expects to find an eager buyer.
The southwest Arkansas plant has 45 workers -- 37 in hourly jobs
and eight on salary. The average experience among workers at the
plant is 17 years.
The mill takes poles, which are generally straight and delimbed,
and treats them for further use so they can withstand the weather`s
wear and tear.
Weyerhaeuser bought the plant in 1969 as part of the acquisition
of Dierks Forests and built the current facility in 1987.
