Tyson Foods has created a company-wide Office
of Animal Well-Being to monitor the living conditions and treatment
of animals raised for its slaughterhouses.
The office will oversee all of the world`s largest food
company`s chicken, beef and pork facilities.
The Office of Animal Well-Being will ensure corporate compliance
with the National Chicken Council`s Animal Welfare Guidelines and
the Recommended Animal Handling Guidelines formulated by the
American Meat Institute.
Chairman John Tyson says the company takes its stewardship role
seriously and this measure is part of that responsibility.
The Office of Animal Well-Being was initially formed by I-B-P
Incorporated to oversee that company`s "Handle with Care" efforts
with regard to its beef and pork production. Tyson bought I-B-P and
is expanding the program.
