National Guardsmen Protecting Arsenal Test Positive For Drugs

Updated: January 7, 2009
Drug-sniffing dogs were called to the Pine Bluff Arsenal after ten National Guardsmen assigned to a security detail tested positive for drug use. Arsenal leaders were notified this week that ten soldiers tested positive for drug use during a random urinalysis November Fourth. Eight of the soldiers tested positive for cocaine and two for marijuana. The ten soldiers were relieved of their duties. An arsenal spokeswoman says a sweep by the dog teams was inconclusive. And Pine Bluff police say no drugs were found in a routine check of soldiers barracks. A unit of the Criminal Investigation Division from Fort Polk, Louisiana, is expected to arrive at the arsenal Monday to investigate the matter further.
