Do-It-Yourself Funerals?

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Herman Brock says it`s just too much. The cost of the typical funeral is up to almost $6,000 a year and Brock says it`s just not worth the price. "I`d rather just take that money," he says. "Leave it for someone else. Buy a piece of furniture to remember me by." So Brock is fighting back and trying to cut out the middle-man. He wants a do-it-yourself funeral and he wants to be buried in his own backyard. The City of Conway has problems with the plan and rejected it because Brock hasn`t secured a long-term caretaker. Brock says he isn`t giving up and will be buried out in the county (along with some other relatives) where restrictions aren`t so tight. He`s so serious about saving money he even built his own cedar casket.
