Family Questions Death at PB Detention Center

Updated: January 7, 2009
A 12 year-old girl is dead and her family is demanding answers. Jennifer Bryant was found dead at the Pine Bluff Juvenile Justice Center over the weekend. She died from an apparent suicide. Jennifer`s uncle, Willie Bryant, says the Justice Center deserves the blame. "If this is the help we`re going to get," he says, "she could have stayed out on the streets." Bryant says his niece was suicidal and that the Justice Center workers should have kept a closer eye on Jennifer. The Justice Center stands behind its practices. The Center`s administrator says each child is checked every fifteen minutes, but admits somehow Jennifer slipped away. He says nothing like this has ever happened at the Center, adding, "I love all of the kids here and am heartsick over what happened." For Willie Bryant, the explanation isn`t good enough. He hopes a State Police investigation will come up with answers.
