Staley Speaks Out

Carolyn Staley says she`s been unfairly targeted.
The embattled Pulaski circuit county clerk spoke out one day after grand jurors called for her removal from office. Those jurors cited Staley`s incompetence in maintaing an accurate voter registration datatbase as grounds for removal. For years felons and the dead have remained on the rolls while active voters have been mysteriously removed. Staley feels the grand jury has been heavily influenced by a prosecutor with political motives. She feels the probes may also be tied to her past opposition to voter issues being consolidated under her office. County Prosecutor Larry Jegley calls all that nonsense. The grand jury`s decision to file a civil presentment against Staley and call for her removal versus a criminal indictment is unprecedented in Arkansas case law.
A circuit judge will have to review the panel`s recommendations and decide how to proceed. A trial could soon follow.
