Experts say the Arkansas political landscape can be divided into two parts: the conservative northwest corner, and the left-leaning remainder. A new Pew Center poll shows that may be changing. It shows Democrats still outnumber Republicans, but it also shows Republicans are gaining ground-- and fast (quicker than anywhere else in the country, according to the poll).
Democratic leaders point to their own polls, which actually show the opposite is happening. Either way, two things are certain: one, that Arkansas will be a battleground state in 2004 and, two, that Arkansans aren`t as predictable as their counterparts in many other states.
