Controversy Swirls Around Deadly Store Fire

Updated: January 7, 2009
Investigators are trying to determine whether a man who died in an early morning fire actually lived at the store. Officials were told the man, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, was given keys to open the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Geyer Springs Saturday morning. But firemen said the door was locked when they arrived on the scene. While they were putting out the fire, they discovered the man`s body in the basement. One businessowner tells KARK 4 News that the man was frequently seen around the store. "He was out all times of the night," said Ricky White, who owns a restaurant in the same area. "We`d see him sometimes 12-1 O`clock in the morning, going back there." Officials said the fire appeared to be electrical. A final report is expected next week.
