The 189th Airlift Wing of the Arkansas Air National Guard has a new commander. In a ceremony Saturday at Little Rock Air Force Base, members of the air guard welcomed Colonel Travis D- Balch as the airlift wing`s new commander. He takes the place of Colonel Riley P- Porter. The ceremony was also an occasion for the air guard to honor more than 100 members who have been deployed since the September Eleventh, 2001, terrorist attacks. Porter, a former mayor of West Helena, returned a few weeks ago from a four-month assignment in Iraq. During his time there, he supervised the construction of an air base in Balad and commanded operations at Tallil Air Base.
