Ghosts and goblins are proving lucrative to retailers across the country, according to a new report. The National Retail Federation says 46.6% of consumers will shell out big bucks for candy, costumes and decorations. Consumers will also spend an average of $14.85 on costumes, $14.41 on candy, and $2.14 on greeting cards, the report said. About $11 will be spent on decorations. Financial analysts use holiday sales to gauge consumer confidence. So far, the economy is off to a good start. Third-quarter domestic product figures are up seven percent. Thats the fastest growth in nearly 20 years.
