"No Smoking" Ordinance In Bryant Does Not Go Through

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Bryant`s City Council has rejected an ordinance that would have banned smoking in public buildings and in the seating areas of sporting events. Alderman James Pollnow, who sponsored the ordinance, says he`s disappointed by yesterday`s 6-to-2 vote. The council previously rejected a proposed ordinance from Pollnow that would have prohibited smoking in vehicles carrying minors. Aldermen rejected it because they thought it would be difficult to enforce. The ordinance rejected yesterday would have imposed fines ranging from 50 to 500 dollars for smoking in public areas, such as restaurants, shopping centers and workplaces. Aldermen say most Bryant restaurants and businesses already are smoke-free, and the city has no public bars because Saline County prohibits alcohol sales.
