Man Charged With First-Degree Murder

Updated: January 7, 2009
A Lavaca man faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of his son-in-law. The charge filed yesterday against 50-year-old John Boyd stems from the October 12th shooting death of 35-year-old James Jenkins in front of his Alma home. Boyd entered an innocent plea through his attorney and is being held in the Crawford County jail in lieu of 250-thousand dollars bond. Documents filed in the case say Boyd told his daughter that he didn`t want her and her three children to move away. The documents say the result was the fatal shooting of Jenkins. Boyd is accused of shooting Jenkins in the back of the head with a 12-gauge shotgun during a conversation outside Jenkins` rural home. No one witnessed the shooting, but Jenkins` wife told deputies that she ran to the front yard after hearing a shot and saw her father holding the shotgun and standing over Jenkins` body.
