Shelter Offers Outreach To Battered Men

More and more men are claiming to be victims of domestic violence. Several of them even filed protective orders in court.
Now one Arkansas county is finally getting the help it needs thanks to a battered women`s shelter in Clark County.
Courage House recently opened a similar center in Garland County and plans to focus on male domestic abuse.
Officials say recent reports from the Prosecutors Office show the center is desperately needed.
"They had over 570 orders of protection last year that were filed," says Cheryl Allen, executive director of Courage House. "66 of them were males."
Garland County has five shelters, but none of them focus exclusively on domestic violence.
Officials will use the new center to train other agencies on dealing with male abuse.
