Mother Faces Murder Charges

The lawyers for a north Arkansas nurse accused of inducing premature labor in her 13-year-old daughter and letting her infant grandchild die says she is eager to have her day in court. Prosecutors are asking for a delay in the murder trial of 47-year-old Julie Smith. The trial is supposed to begin tomorrow. But attorneys involved in the case say they expect the judge to grant the delay. That dismays Smith`s court-appointed lawyer Ralph Blagg, who says his client is innocent and has been languishing without a way to support herself since the murder charge was filed against her in March since she was suspended from work after charges were filed. According to Deputy Prosecutor Angela Byrd`s request for continuance, three expert medical witnesses couldn`t attend the trial because of meetings and other scheduling conflicts.
