Adoptions in Arkansas have more than doubled
during the past five years. That reflects a national trend that in
2001 put 80 percent more children in permanent homes than in 1997.
The increase means thousands of children are no longer
languishing in state foster care systems for years at a time,
waiting for a family to call their own. Children`s advocates in
Arkansas credit social services agencies and the judicial system
for working children through the placement process more quickly.
