breaking news
A dreary day is still a good day to take a hike.
That`s just one of the activities that Audubon Arkansas is encouraging to get gets outdoors and moving around.
They`ve teamed up with the Coalition for a Healthy and Active America to help fight the problem of childhood obesity.
"We have children out here, hiking trails with us. We have a couple of miles of trail loop and have kids out here learning and experiencing the outdoors," said Rob Fisher with Audubon Arkansas.
Audubon Arkansas says the Natural state is third in the nation for childhood obesity.
The average American child only spends about 43 minutes outdoors per week.
"It`s a real problem kids aren`t getting outside anymore, they`re staying inside playing on computers, reading, hopefully, watching t.v.," Fisher said.
Fisher added that fall is good time to take advantage of Arkansas` parks, while getting a little exercise, and for the kids, learn a little about nature at the same time.
