Flu Shots Help Train Counties For Bio-Terrorism

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A vaccination network organized to deal with bioterrorism threats is being put to use for a less deadly purpose -- flu shots. The state Health Department says nine counties will test their vaccine-dispensing plans using flu shots during daylong exercises later this year. Health officials want local residents to volunteer for influenza vaccine shots as the winter flu season approaches. Donnie Smith, leader of the Health Department`s Bioterrorism Preparedness Team, says county governments will then be able to see how smoothly their emergency vaccination plan would work for such potential bioterror threats as smallpox. The nine participating counties are Arkansas, Carroll, Cleveland, Crittenden, Garland, Grant, Greene, Marion and Union.
