Putting the Brakes on Car Wrecks

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Two deaths on Arkansas roads Thursday and Friday made for 482 fatal car wrecks in the state so far this year. With more than 42,000 people a year dying on the nation`s raodways, The national and Arkansas highway departments are trying to put the brakes on fatalities. They say deadly car accidents aren`t just caused by drunk drivers, but also those who aren`t paying attention or following road rules. "There are many things people can do when they`re driving, paying attention, merging properly, following speed limits," said Farrell Wilson, of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. The Highway Department says being safer also means being especially careful in construction zons, since Arkansas is currently under a record amount of roadwork.
