To continue to thrive in what remains a
difficult retail market, the leader of Wal-Mart`s biggest division
says the company needs to keep its thinking on a modest scale.
Vice President Tom Coughlin says feedback from customers and
employees will help keep items shoppers want on the shelf. Coughlin
says future success will mean the world`s largest retailer acting
like a small company.
Coughlin oversees domestic Wal-Mart discount stores,
Supercenters, Sam`s Club warehouse stores and Neighborhood Market
grocery stores.
Keeping an eye to its roots doesn`t mean that Wal-Mart will pull
back in its aggressive pursuit of using technology to cut costs.
Coughlin stresses that new electronic methods of tracking
merchandise will help both Wal-Mart and suppliers.
