Money Not So Green Anymore

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The stuff we call "greenbacks" isn`t so green anymore. New bills released by the U.S. Federal Reserve boast peach and blue colors, as well as green. The Fed says they released the bills to stay ahead of the counterfeiters. Other features include the new blue freedom symbol, floating "20`s" on the back and ink in the bottom right corner shifts from green to copper. The Fed says the new bills are just to update the last ones released in 1996. "They`ve been very effective at deterring counterfeiting. I don`t know that we`ve had a significant reduction in the number of counterfeits but we`ve stayed where we were," said Robert Hopkins, senior officer, Federal Reserve Bank. The new bills went out to banks, credit unions, and savings and loans on Thursday. New $50`s and $100`s are expected in 2004 and 2005.
