A government hurdle has been cleared,
so the USS Razorback is headed to North Little Rock.
Last month, Mayor Patrick Hays announced plans for a maritime
museum on the riverfront. That`s where the 311-foot World War Two
submarine will be moored.
The US State Department gave approval Tuesday of the plan to
move the submarine from Turkey to North Little Rock. That sets in
motion plans for towing the vessel across the Mediterranean Sea and
the Atlantic Ocean, then up the Mississippi and Arkansas rivers to
North Little Rock.
The 1,800 ton Razorback is actually named for a reddish
whale, not an Arkansas hog. Hays says the sub could begin its
42-day journey in mid-November.
