Volunteers Needed For Pine Bluff Coast Guard

Updated: January 7, 2009
The Coast Guard auxiliary unit in Pine Bluff could shut down if more members are not found. Auxiliary spokesman Stu Soffer said the group has 16 members. It requires 15 to operate and pay dues to the Coast Guard. But, if volunteers continue to leave, the city and surrounding area could have to do without boating education courses, boat inspections and lake and river safety patrols. Soffer said the local unit would have to disband and attach itself to the Little Rock flotilla if more volunteers do not come forward or if the flotilla loses more members.
