Federal Do Not Call List Confuses Company

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A local company which raises money for non-profit agencies says it`s "confused" over which "Do Not Call" registry applies to them. John Braune, president of Sherwood-Based Heritage Company, says he`s willing to abide by the law but doesn`t know "which law" to obey. "We`re trying to comply with all the rules that are out there," says Braune. "There`s still some uncertainty as to what`s happening with the DNC lists." Under federal law, non-profit fundraisers are allowed to solicit over phone. But state law prohibits them from doing so. Only salaried employees with non-profit agencies are allowed to dial for dollars. Heritage employs 1700 people in Arkansas. 1500 are telemarketers. A spokesman with the Arkansas Attorney General`s office says it`s still trying to determine which lists businesses should comply with.
