A cache of vintage Luger pistols and
artifacts ranging from a chrome dagger to a red arm band emblazoned
with the Nazi swastika were among items displayed at the Capitol
today. The items are part of the state auditor`s Great Arkansas
Treasure Hunt. The event is an effort by Auditor Jim Wood`s to find
more than 38,000 owners of $12.5 million worth of
unclaimed property.
The Nazi artifacts came from an out-of-state bank safety deposit
box and belong to a De Queen man. The auditor`s office declined to
give his name, but it is among the names added to a database
listing more than 150,000 Arkansans eligible to submit a claim
for lost property.
The auditor`s office is responsible for collecting uncashed
checks, stocks and bonds, abandoned bank accounts and other items.
Prospective claimants can check for lost items at the auditor`s Web
site and submit a claim online.
