Slipping Consumer Confidence

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
With brightly deocrated trees and displays of snowmen and lights, retailers are sending us that not-so- subtle message : the holiday spending season is here. Though it`s not yet October, Christmas items are competing with pumpkins for aisle space. Despite the hopes in corporate offices around America, consumers may not be buying into the idea. One business research group says continuing concerns about the stagnant job market are dampening spending spirits. The Conference Board`s consumer confidence index now rests at 76.8 percent, marking a nearly 5 point dip from August`s numbers. As a result, the group says consumer spending is likely to continue at or near current levels.
