Couple Helps Blind Travelers Nationwide

Blind travelers passing through Little Rock National Airport no longer have to wonder what`s happening, thanks to Barbara and Arden Duncan. But before changes were made, blind travelers were shuffled through security, left with long waits and wondering where their bags went. The Little Rock couple was honored Friday for their input that led to security changes at airports ationwide. Governor Huckabee presented the couple with letters of commendation in Braille in a ceremony at the airport. The Duncans went into action after a particularly difficult travel experience at the Little Rock airport in February. They decided to notify Transportation Security Administration officers and try to remedy the problem. Federal officers in Little Rock responded and decided to send the Duncans through security unannounced and observe how they were treated. What happened showed up the problems in the system. The Duncans said blind travelers couldn`t see where their bags went after they went through metal detectors. They were left sitting without shoes or their guide sticks. The delays sometimes caused them to miss their flights. The security office at Little Rock took their suggestions and now the couple say they`re delighted their input has changed protocol nationwide.
