Arkansas Gets Money For Homeland Security

Updated: January 7, 2009
Arkansas emergency managers plan to spend money from a nearly 12.4 million dollar federal grant to build a new state Emergency Operations Center. Homeland Security undersecretary Asa Hutchinson, a former congressman from Arkansas, announced the grant today. Arkansas was awarded an additional two million dollar grant to improve outdated communication systems. That money will go to the city of Conway for a pilot program. Arkansas Department of Emergency Management Director Wayne Ruthven says the state hopes to break ground on the new center before the end of the year. He says numerous sites in the central Arkansas region are being considered. Posted by Mike Hellgren
