Attroney General Says No To Ads On School Buses

The state Attorney General`s office says selling advertising space on the outside of school buses is NOT allowed. State Representative Joyce Elliott had asked if the Pulaski County School District could legally sell advertising space on its buses. In an option, the A-G`s office says that would violate state law and state Education Board regulations. The opinion cites a state law requiring school buses to be "in the color officially designated by the state Board of Education" so they are uniform in appearance and clearly identifiable as school buses. It went on to cite a board regulation on the exterior appearance of buses. The regulation says school bus bodies should be painted a particular color: "National School Bus Yellow." The regulation goes on to specify what portion of bus exterior must be black and what portion -- the roof -- may be painted white. Also, part of the regulation are requirements for lettering on the outside of a bus. Posted by Mike Hellgren
