Jobs To Be Cut At Hope Tyson Plant

Updated: January 7, 2009
About 400 jobs are being cut at a Tyson Foods poultry facility in Hope. A spokesman for Springdale-based Tyson says the plant now employs one-thousand-650 people and the 400 losing their jobs have been notified. The cuts are effective beginning October Fourth. Tyson will work with the employees and the state Employment Security Department to help them find other jobs. Spokesman Ed Nicholson says jobs might be available at Tyson Foods operations in nearby Grannis, Nashville or Texarkana. He says the workforce is being reduced because it is just more economical to have other companies perform some of the labor intensive work that the Hope plant now performs. He said those companies are in Arkadelphia and Dardanelle. Besides processing chicken, the plant at Hope handles value-added operations, which may include breading, battering and cooking chicken. Tyson is the world`s largest meat company.
